Who we are
Owners Emma and Hassan, a British/Ugandan couple who met during Emma’s time as a volunteer in Uganda across community projects both in farming and education throughout rural Uganda, bought the land together in 2021 and started planting native Robusta coffee seedlings as a way of increasing livelihoods and bringing opportunities to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in the area.
The farm is named after the protected evergreen Kibale Forest, one of the last remaining ancient and diverse tropical rainforests with some of the highest concentration of biodiversity and primates in Africa. With Kibale Coffee Orchards being so close to the National Park and River Mpanga, it attracts elephant families to bathe and drink along our riverbanks, a vast water source originating from the glaciers of the Rwenzori Mountains and travelling along the south side of the farm. The fresh mountain water not only provides drinking and bathing spots for the elephants but also attracts abundant wildlife from neighbouring Kibale National Park. With elephants still largely hunted for ivory in Uganda, a wildlife protection scheme will be created through our coffee growing project to help ensure future elephant populations in Uganda.
